“As a stand-alone pump, this pool pump is actually a 3HP pump, but can be set to any of four speeds. If coupled with a controller, it can be set to numerous different speeds as necessary such as a Cleaner speed, water feature speed, solar speed (for when the water can be heated through the panels), spa speed and a slow filtering speed. FYI, a traditional pump draws about 1000 watts (1kW) for each horsepower… POWER USAGE UPDATES: 1500 rpm = 257 watts, used for just normal filtration (a huge savings over the 1000 watts the old pump pulled)…”
“I bought this Pentair swimming pool pump in a panic, to replace a failed (melted) pump in a public swimming pool. The previous pool pump was a 5HP monster, so I was a little concerned I might be asking for too much from the 3 HP IntelliFlo. It installed with only minor re-plumbing. The only surprise was that in the buying panic I didn’t realize the full extent of the difference between the various IntelliFlo models. I was expecting the control keypad with the display and the programmable on/off time and the whole works, however this version only had 4 buttons for speed control and that was it. “
